Many organizations running hybrid environments – partially on-prem but also in Azure – treat it as stable architecture, rather than what is actually the case: a migration that’s in progress.
Hybrid works. It also comes with costs, which pure cloud or fully-modernized on-prem environments do not. These include complexity in identity management and inconsistent policy enforcement across environments.
Those who use hybrid effectively tend to have a clear roadmap of what they will do next. Those that struggle tend to use hybrid because they’ve landed there after an incomplete migration without a plan for what happens next.
Hybrid operation is valid. It’s important to ask whether this is intentional or simply where the last migration ended.
