I look for these things before touching even a single computer in any migration

The pre-migration check list most people ignore:

1. Full dependencies map – not just what team members know about, but actually what is running in the environment
2. Data Integrity baseline — A snapshot of what was there before migration, so that you can compare it to post-migration
3. An audit of your identity — Identify every account (user, service, group, permission) that needs to be moved, or re-created.
4. Back-up plan: If the cutover at hour two fails, what is the specific route back, and for how long?
5. Stakeholder Communications Timeline — from pre-migration to Hyper Care, who needs what information and when?

These are not technical measures. They’re discipline steps. These steps can make the difference between an organized migration and one that is improvised.
