Coordination Not Code

Coordination rather than code was key in keeping one migration on schedule.

Technical plans were sound when setting this one in motion, yet what truly determined our timelines was how well all five teams aligned over six consecutive weeks.

Infrastructure, security, app owners and business stakeholders all had an interest in this migration and all had different priorities and timelines they were striving to protect during its execution.

Not surprisingly, what kept it on track wasn’t any one tool – rather it was clear communication, defined roles so nobody was wondering who owned what, shared timelines that all could see and regular check-ins that detected small issues before they became big ones on cutover day.

By the time of go-live, everyone already had an understanding of what would occur and when. That wasn’t by chance — rather it reflected our actual work being conducted concurrently with any technical efforts being carried out at any point during our development cycle.
