3 risks to migration, no matter the scale

Ten users or ten thousand, the same risks show up under every migration.

Data loss and corruption. If the transfer isn’t accurate, everything built on top of that data is affected. This is the risk that gets the most attention and still gets missed when pre-migration baselines aren’t established.

Downtime and business disruption. Even a short interruption has ripple effects across every system and workflow that depends on what just moved. The business feels this faster than the dashboard reports it.

Access and identity failures. If people can’t reach what they need, the migration failed regardless of what the project plan says went right. Permissions, service accounts, and conditional access policies all need to be verified against a live environment, not a checklist.

Experience doesn’t eliminate these risks. It changes how early they get managed and how much runway exists to fix them before they become incidents.

Migration risk is inevitable. Unmanaged migration risk is a choice.
