ShareGate Migrations Break at Permission, But not at Data Volume

Is your SharePoint migration producing permission mismatches that nobody finds until users start calling the help desk?

I’ve migrated over 100 SharePoint sites using ShareGate. Different tenant configurations, same tool, same failure mode every time it goes wrong: permissions.

ShareGate does an excellent job moving content. What it can’t do is fix your source tenant if broken inheritance exists on subsites before you start. If a document library has unique permissions that were manually set and never documented, ShareGate will faithfully replicate that broken state to the target.

Pre-migration permission (auditing walking the site collection structure, identifying broken inheritance, documenting unique permission scopes) is what separates a clean ShareGate migration from a messy one.

I do that audit before I configure a single migration batch.

What permission issues surfaced in your last ShareGate run?
