IT can’t answer these questions alone.

What’s your highest-risk cutover window? End of quarter, product launch, board meeting week — IT doesn’t always know these, and the business doesn’t always think to say.

What data or systems are actually critical to daily operations? The answer is rarely what’s in the CMDB. The people who know are in the business units, not the infrastructure team.

How will you reach business stakeholders during cutover — not just IT contacts? Someone needs to be able to confirm operations are running who isn’t looking at a dashboard.

What does “done” mean to you? IT and the business define successful cutover differently. When those definitions don’t get reconciled before the window opens, the gap shows up during it — and it looks like a technical problem.

Most of the time it isn’t.
