Your migration tool has finished without errors. The dashboard shows green. Then Monday dawns and the telephone at the helpdesk starts ringing.
Almost always, seven things break.
1. The shared mailbox and delegated permissions are not carried over. At one company; it was a separate task to remediate these across 6 counties.
2. Autodiscovery (and Outlook profile configuration) only appears after DNS cutover. The window for remediation is limited.
3. Executives notice the gaps in calendars, contacts and other information first. BitTitan’s migration of these objects may not be exactly how users expect.
4. Re-enrollment for mobile devices.
5. Mail flow interruptions. Connector misconfigurations. DNS propagation delay are silent, until they aren’t.
6. Access failures can be caused by licensing gaps. Users who migrate before M365 is licensed generate access failures which look like migration mistakes. They aren’t.
7. Hyper Care is terminated prematurely. Issues are still present days after the migration. This window caught what was missed by the dashboard during 3 post-migrations in one companies’ 500+ client base.
A green dashboard on the cutover evening is not the start of the migration.
