Why the M365 migration specialist role is becoming one of the most in-demand IT contracts

Have you noticed that job postings for M365 migration roles now include 12-month contracts and specific tool requirements?

This specialization is now a role category within enterprise job descriptions, rather than a niche on a resume. The shift was rapid and isn’t slowing down.

M&A activity and corporate divestitures combined with organizations completing post-pandemic cloud migrations have created a wave of M365 demand. These are not one-offs. These are recurring programs that are driven by business activities that result in a tenant-totenant migration requirement. Every divestiture and every acquisition integration requires a migration programme. The pipeline is structural and not cyclical.

The language used in the job descriptions has changed to reflect what organizations learned from previous migrations that didn’t go well. The roles now refer to specific platforms: BitTitan MigrationWiz Quest ODM ShareGate. They list specific certifications, such as MS-102, AZ104, AZ305. They ask for specific tenant-to-tenant experience rather than general M365 administration. The market is saying that M365 generalist experience is not enough for these programs.

The project-based nature reflected in the contract-to-hire structures of many of these roles. The organizations want a migration specialist. They need someone with a thorough understanding of the entire stack, from pre-migration assessments to Hyper Care Support closeout. They don’t necessarily need this person on staff permanently. But they do need them to be independent and able to document what they built to whoever runs the following phase.

LinkedIn is a great place for engineers to showcase their experience with specific tools. Specific platforms, mailbox count, project outcomes, and certificates held. The market does not want someone who has worked on M365. It is looking for someone who can demonstrate that they have successfully migrated from planning to Hyper Care.

What can a hiring manager find in your LinkedIn profile about your MigrationWiz experiences that they couldn’t find on any other profile?
