Why MigrationWiz Item-Level Error Reports Are the Real Troubleshooting Tool

Are you stopping at the MigrationWiz summary error count instead of exporting the item-level report?

The item-level error export is where diagnosis actually happens. It lists object type, error code, error message, and timestamp for each failed item. Many engineers see X items failed in the summary and start guessing, but the export gives you the evidence needed to triage.

In practice, three error categories show up repeatedly and each one demands a different response. Throttling errors, HTTP 429 from EWS or Graph, typically resolve on retry and MigrationWiz can handle them automatically. Permission errors, HTTP 403, do not fix themselves. Retries will not help until you correct the underlying RBAC or impersonation scope. Item corruption errors indicate the source object is malformed and will not migrate even if you change configuration.

If you treat a 403 like throttling, you can restart a job 50 times and waste your cutover window. The error code is the decision point that tells you what to do next.

Are you exporting item-level error reports from MigrationWiz or relying only on the summary dashboard counts?
