BitTitan: How To Execute IMAP-based Email Migrations
IMAP source platform compatibility is determined by identifying the IMAP email service provider. Also, verify that IMAP access for the system has been enabled. IMAP must be enabled for your email provider.
Gather IMAP connection details. Request the IMAP port number and hostname from your email service. MigrationWiz can detect the SSL configuration and correct port automatically if you fail to connect the first time.
Prepare the IMAP system source. Verify the email is saved on the IMAP (not local) server. Export your IMAP users list to CSV or request a copy from your service provider if it is not possible for you to access the administrator’s area.
Prepare the environment of your destination Create user accounts on your destination system. (Microsoft 365 G Suite Hosted Exchange On Premises Exchange) Assign appropriate licenses. Verify that the destination is configured to receive emails.
Create the MigrationWiz projects Log into BitTitan’s MigrationWiz Platform and create a brand new migration project. Select the IMAP Source type and Destination (Microsoft 365 Exchange, Google Workspace Exchange, Hosted Exchange Exchange, On-Premise Exchange).
Configure IMAP source Endpoint Enter IMAP server name and port number. If you plan to use administrative credentials for G Suite IMAP (available on Exchange IMAP), please provide the admin credentials. Otherwise, individual user credentials will be collected later.
Configure destination endpoint Configure destination endpoint based on administrative credentials.
Perform a Trial Migration Perform a testing migration on an example user mailbox before the complete migration. Check that the folder structure is correct and organized in the new destination. Review and configure your folder mapping. Examine the migration of folders. Pay special attention to system folders. Advanced Options allow you to create custom folder remappings if necessary. IMAP can only identify the Inbox Folder, and some system folders may use different naming conventions.Execute full migration Select users in your project and click Start. Choose Full migration. MigrationWiz migrates all mail from IMAP source to destination.
