Most people assume cloud migration is largely done. Most organizations have made the move, and what’s left is maintenance.

That doesn’t match what’s actually in production.

Many environments have only partially transitioned. Hybrid systems are running because the full migration never finished. Legacy workloads that were supposed to move got deprioritized and stayed on premises. The remaining work didn’t disappear. It got deferred.

The ongoing work looks like this: migrating the workloads that didn’t make the first wave, optimizing what already lives in the cloud, and consolidating platforms that grew separately over years and were never rationalized.

Migration isn’t a trend that organizations complete and move past. It’s a capability they need continuously, because the environment keeps changing after the project closes.
