Manual migration doesn’t scale. It’s just a way to delay the pain.
It’s fine to do things manually for a few small servers or mailbox migrations. Nobody needs automation when there are ten users.
At enterprise scale, manual process no longer represent a minor inefficiency but a real risk. There are more manual processes, so there’s more room for something to go silently wrong. At scale, it’s hard to catch the problem before it’s too late.
Scripting alters the math. PowerShell is central to the way I prepare for migrations — pulling and verifying Active Directory data, creating staging environments prior to cutover, automating those repetitive steps which are where manual error can creep in.
Automation is not a nice to have anymore. At any real-world scale, automation is the only way to prevent accuracy and speed from being at odds.
