You may not be aware of the impact on migration talent that M&A activity has.
Every acquisition creates a workstream for integration. Every divestiture results in a separation process. Both require a tenant to tenant M365 migration. This requires a specialist that understands the entire stack: Exchange Online mailbox, SharePoint Online content, OneDrive for business, Teams, Entra ID objects, and coexistence during the transition.
The corporate restructuring wave, which has been building up for three years, is not slowing down. The demand for migration it generates is real, and continues to be so. I have seen this directly in programs that are tied to divestiture activities worth over $2 billion.
Most IT generalists do not have the skills to handle what these programs require. General M365 administration skills do not provide the necessary skills for identity consolidation, domain rehoming, Entra ID reorganization, or hybrid identity configuration in a transition period. They are a result of running migrations in large scales and understanding what goes wrong when the sequencing is incorrect.
The job description landscape reflects this. The roles are now naming platforms: BitTitan MigrationWiz Quest ODM ShareGate. They list certifications: MS-102, AZ-04, AZ-305. They ask for tenant-totenant experience, not just general M365 administration experience. This shift in the way roles are written shows you what skills the market is unable to find through normal hiring.
Before these roles are ever posted publicly, engineers who can design runbooks and Hyper Care Support Windows, and manage coexistence strategy across complex tenant environments will be sought.
What does your profile say about you if you have tenant-to-tenant expertise and measurable results?
