Are you migrating Litigation Hold mailboxes through MigrationWiz while legal and compliance assume Recoverable Items are included?
In Exchange Online, Litigation Hold mailboxes retain more data than users can see in the primary mailbox. Deleted items and modified versions are preserved within the Recoverable Items folder, which sits outside the standard mailbox quota and is not exposed in the user view. MigrationWiz migrates primary mailbox content. It does not access or migrate Recoverable Items or Litigation Hold archives.
If the organization must preserve Litigation Hold archive content in the destination tenant, that data needs to be captured via a separate eDiscovery export process rather than a MigrationWiz job. These are distinct workstreams that require different tooling.
If you plan to place the destination mailbox on Litigation Hold after cutover, understand what that means operationally: the destination hold starts capturing data from the migration date forward. The historical hold data from the source does not transfer, and the destination hold begins with an empty Recoverable Items folder.
This expectation needs to be set with legal and compliance leadership before migration begins. A compliance team that believes hold history is transferring creates a post-cutover issue that is far harder to unwind than a pre-migration disclosure conversation.
Have you briefed your legal and compliance team on MigrationWiz behavior with Litigation Hold mailboxes before migration starts?
