MigrationWiz Calendar Migration and Why Recurring Series Produce the Highest Error Rates

Are your calendar migrations in MigrationWiz generating item-level errors that are overwhelmingly tied to recurring meeting series?

Calendar migrations in MigrationWiz routinely show higher item-level error rates than standard IPM.Note mailbox content. The pattern tends to be consistent: single-instance calendar items migrate cleanly, while recurring series fail far more often.

In Exchange, a recurring calendar item is stored as a master recurrence item plus exception items for any modified occurrences. If the master includes a reference to a resource mailbox that was deleted in the source tenant, or an attendee whose Exchange account no longer exists, MigrationWiz may fail the entire recurrence series rather than only the specific exception. One bad reference in the master can cascade across every occurrence.

A practical approach is to run calendar migration as a separate MigrationWiz pass rather than bundling it with IPM.Note content. Then review the item-level error report with a focus on IPM.Appointment failures. From there, identify which failed series are still actively used versus old series that have been lingering for years. Many older recurring series are not worth manual remediation and can be recorded as known migration exclusions.

Are you handling IPM.Appointment migration in its own MigrationWiz pass, with a dedicated error review step?
