Azure Virtual Machines offer scalable computing in the cloud. This article outlines the steps for creating and managing VMs so that they can effectively support client workflows.
Sign in with Azure Portal
Sign in first to the Azure Portal. Ensure that you have all the permissions required to create VMs on your subscription.
Step 2 Create a Virtual Machine
Click the “Virtual Machines”. This will take you to the section.
Select Add’ to begin the VM-creation process.
Configure the Basics: Enter all necessary details including Subscriptions and Resource Groups. Also, enter the Virtual Machine name. Choose a close-by Region to minimize latency.
Select an Image and Size : Choose the operating system you want (Windows Linux). The size of your VM will depend on the workload.
Step 3: Configure network and security
Networking: Setup a Virtual Network(VNet) and Subnets for the VM. This allows for communication between client workloads.
Security: Configure network security groups (NSG) for managing inbound/outbound traffic.
Step 4: Set Storage Option
Depending upon your performance needs, you can select Standard HDD (HDD), Standard SSD (SSD), or Premium SSD (SSD) for VM Storage. Configure data and OS disks as needed.
Step 5 Review and Create
To deploy the VM, review all configurations and then click “Create”. The deployment procedure will take several minutes.
Step 6 : Manage the VM
Monitor Performance. Use Azure Monitor in order to track performance metrics.
Scale based on Needs: Add additional instances or adjust the size to meet the needs of clients.
Backup and Update – Regularly back-up the VM. Also, ensure the operating and application systems are updated.
